What is Lead Roofing ?

Have you ever noticed mould on your ceiling, thinking you must have a broken roof tile but can’t see any damage. Does this sound familiar ? This could be down to the lead flashings. We at TNT Roofing will ensure your lead is correctly installed, dressed and pointed.
What are the benefits to Lead Roofing ?
- Flexible – Lead is an extremely flexible material, lead sheeting can be pulled taut and stretched around tricky shapes and areas for total coverage. Dependant on the temperature lead expands and contracts, which is extremely useful for a roof within the UK due to the unpredictability of the British weather.
- Sealant – When used with the correct neutral cure sealants, lead’s flexibility gives excellent sealing properties. Where there is a join between two surfaces, lead can provide a great seal. Lead can also be used as covering for guttering too, which helps towards making a roof 100% water-tight.
- Longevity – A good quality lead roof can last up to 3x longer than any other roofing materials. Due to this, you may notice most historical buildings have lead roofing, because it is reliable and durable which is also a more cost-effective option in the long run.
- Corrosion Resistant – Lead is an extremely strong and resilient metal, therefore it is resistant to any type of corrosion, including pollutions within the atmosphere and damaging UV rays. Lead roofing can also cope with a whole range of varying temperatures, allowing it to be perfect material for different environments.
- Recyclable – Lead is one of the most recycled materials, overtaking aluminium, copper and zinc, creating a more sustainable environment and also reducing carbon emissions.
